    Liberty Wreck

The Liberty Wreck in Tulamben is considered as the most famous and the safest wreck dive in Bali as well as in the world. The USAT Liberty Shipwreck is just a few meters away from the shore. This armed cargo ship which was built in 1918 acted as a supply ship during the World War II. The ship had been damaged so great. Because of this, its attempt to reach Singaraja failed. The crew was displaced and the ship wrecked in Tulamben.

The ship crashed beneath the water due to Bali’s volcano named Gunung Agung violent eruption in 1963. It currently lies beneath a black sand shelf that slopes at 6 meters or 20 feet to 30 meters or 98 feet. The ship is originally 120 meters or 394 feet long, 16 meters or 54 feet beam and 6211 tons when compelled from Australia to the Philippines. The Liberty is now one of the most beautiful artificial reefs in Indonesia. Here, people enjoy a large concentration of huge corals, sponges and gentle slopes. The marine life includes turtles, reef sharks and occasionally Mola Mola or the sunfish. There are also big eyed jacks, batfish, a variety of large angelfish, parrotfish, sweetlips, flatworms and nudibranchs. During night, divers enjoy seeing schooling flash light fish , also known as the fireflies of the sea.
